Pentax lenses.
Hello to all, both newbies and experts.
I'm Len and am returning to photography after many years absence.
I'm a silverhair and have many different types of camera, all low-end models. My favourite however is my Pentax ME Super
which is accompanied by Pentax's own 50mm, 28mm and 80-200mm lenses.
I'm now considering the purchase of a DSLR ( to bring me into the 21st century ) and have been looking at Pentax's K-30 spec, which, from comments by those who have purchased one through Amazon, suggest that this is the camera that would meet my needs. My SLR lenses are bayonet type fittings.
I therefore have a question that you, as a Pentax owner of a DSLR may be able to answer:
Are my above SLR lenses ( bayonet fitting ) compatible with the latest Pentax DSLR'S ?
Amazon customer comments suggest that they maybe but I would like to hear from anyone who has first hand knowledge as a Pentax owner.
Look forward to any responses.

Yes, they would be. If they have no "A" on the aperture ring, and I suspect that they don't, you would need to manually select a "f" stop..f4, f8 etc and use the green button for the camera to select a shutter speed. You would also need to focus manually, but I think you know that already. Go to
www.pentaxforum.com and ask this question. You will get tons of useful info. I don't have a K30.. I understand that's it is a great camera. See my signature for what I have. When you go to that forum, do a search on using legacy Pentax K mount lens on a modern DSLR. It will be explained a lot better than my feeble attempt above. Good luck.

I had ME Supers + many lens and stayed with Pentax for that reason. Your old lens's WILL work with the new digital cameras. You will have to focus and choose an "F" stop but you had to do that with your old camera anyway. Any questions, P.M. me.
Yes they are compatible and will fit the K30, that is one of the advantages with a Pentax.
Have a look at the K5, the sensor is amazing.

I have a K30 and love it. Still many features to explorre. I stayed with Pentax because I had lenses and my ME super. However they were all manual focus. Despite calling myself "old school" Now that I have a few Autofocus lenses I wouldn't go back. As I have updated my lenses then, my original argument for sticking to Pentax has somewhat negated itself. I have recently picked up a Canon 50D and am enjoying that as well, but from all accounts the K30 is hard to beat. I believe you need to ignore the K5, and look to the K5 II to top it. I doubt you will be dissapointed in a K30, and recommend you take the plunge. Your only regret will be that you didn't do it sooner. Andrew
Hi Knip and welcome to UHH!
My first DSLR was a Pentax K10 and one of the reasons for getting a Pentax was being able to use all my Pentax legacy lenses from my ME Super.Just like you!
There are a multitude of old and still brilliant K mount lenses out there, look at ebay. Is your 50mm the F1.4? That's a brilliant lens, a perfect "nifty fifty" and one that's hard to beat on the modern market.

I'm a Pentax user (K5 and K01) and glad to see another Pentaxian on UHH. You'll be able to use your lenses on a K30 (one of the best - if not the best - DSLRs in its class), but need to manually set focus and aperature. Checking in with the online Pentx Forum is a good suggestion.
Good luck.

Welcome to our forum, knip. You'll find lots of good info here.
Hello knip57
Welcome to the UHH. I, too finally bought a DSLR, a Pentax K10d which, I love!!! The main reason for me was also having 3 35mm Pentax's for a long time. the lens questions answer is yes. they can work. I see that someone else suggested getting to the Pentax Forum, also. They are another great resource for your questions. Get the DSLR and love it!
Again, Welcome.
Lens legacy was the pacing item for me also; my most revered legacy lenses are the 50mm f/1.4 and the 100mm macro, which turns out to be an excellent portrait lens, also.

I agree that the 50mm f.1.4 and the 100mm macro are terrific, and I also use them for portraits. The 50mm also gives excellent results on the K01.
It's great to see Pentax photographers on a topic thread, for a change!

This has me wondering if my M42 Pentax Takumar screw mount lenses are compatible with Pentax digital cameras and if so , to what extent ? Anyone know please ?

Check with Pentax Forums. An adapter may be needed for for screw-mount lenses.
