I'm curious. What was the vantage point from which you shot?

Miriam,
Whitby Harbour entrance has two Jettys ( I think that is what they're called) almost like piers which extend the river mouth into the sea to provide safe entrance into the harbour.
Half way along them are two columns which I think may have been the original harbour navigation lights. At this point there are a few steps which take you onto a slightly higher level. This extension takes you to the navigation lights which I assume are in use today. I was halfway along this second section looking back into Whitby harbour. If you look carefully you will see my shadow on the sea stood ontop of the pier.
The lens I used was a fisheye lens which has an almost 180 degree field of view horizontally and vertically. hence the distortion.
I hope I have explained well enough. Because you asked the question I assume you live in the UK or are familiar with Whitby. I will attach futher shots to clarify.
I hope I have made myself clear. If not ask me more questions

The two Piers @ Whitby from steps leading to second part of pier. I was stood about half way along left hand pier.

And then after all this hard work, feeling peckish, you had lunch in the "Magpie" cafe.

No Your Wrong. It was fish & Chips at the Quayside Cafe LOL
Never been in the Magpie, my wife is in a wheelchair so can't get up the steps. Woud like to go in there sometime, I've heard it's really good.

You said the right thing there, Doddy. That would appeal to the Scotsman in my husband (Bob).
