Hello folks,
My name is Rudy and I'm fairly new to the hog. I have been reading the topics with great interest. I have found that I have gained a lot of helpful information and pointers from them. With that said....to my question.
I have a Nikon D3100...I have the following lenses: 18-55mm kit lens, a Tamron 60mm macro, a Sigma 150-500mm and a Tamron 10-24mm. I will be getting my kayak in about a month and I was wondering if some kind individual could tell me which lens/lenses I should take. I plan on doing small lakes and rivers. Anyway that's my story (and I'm sticking to it.).

Hi Rudy, Welcome to UHH. Depending on how good a kayaker you are you want either inexpensive ones, cheap ones or one's that float. Actually a combination of all those things would be good. Seriously, I would be hard pressed to take a camera/lens combo on a kayak. Have fun and keep shootin'. Mike

B&H sells some "waterproof" bags for less than $30. I don't know how waterproof they might be in the real world, but it might be worth a try. I would also go with my most versatile and most expendable lens.

Rudy, welcome to the Hog. I don't know what you'll be shooting, so I can't comment on what to take. I would, however, advise you to try to fill that hole between 60mm and 150mm. Also, buy a waterproof camera bag; you WILL need it.

I have to agree. None of your listed gear is weather resistant, one drop in the drink and any of it will be instant toast. Might I suggest you invest in a good waterproof P&S for the kayak, like the Nikon AW110 or similar. Its pocketable also for easy access and storage. And a LOT cheaper than the potential loss of your DSLR to Davey Jones' locker!

buy a camera that is water resistant. look at b&h or adorama they have a good selection. many are rather inexpensive point and shoot cameras.

Thanks for your input folks. Guess I kinda forgot that water is wet. I think I will opt to go with a different camera. Again ....thanks

Leave the expensive gear at home. A decent waterproof camera is cheaper than damaging anything you now own.

Do a search for a-
FUJI FINEPIX XP200 BLUE 16MP 5X WATERPROOF 3"

Have fun and stay dry.

I agree with the idea of buying a waterproof camera. If you decide to bring your regular camera and lens on the kayak, make sure they float.

Right! I got a Nikon AW100 refurb, for a little over half the price of a new one. Rain is not a problem, and neither is water 30' deep.

Of course, recovering the camera from 30 feet down could be a bit of a challenge. :-D

Recovering from attempting to recover the camera might be a bit more of a challenge.

Well, that depends. With scuba gear, it wouldn't be a problem at all. The AW100 would be good for snorkeling and shallow scuba.

Does the AW100 include a depth meter?. Remember anything past mark 5 and it's a paperweight from now on.
