Was able to prop my elbows on our front stoop and take these 1:1 images of a Mayfly. The second image is cropped of the head area.
If anyone knows the species, would love the information.

Yellow granuales are White Pine pollen

Lovely. I THINK it's in the genus Hexagenia, or something close to it.

Thanks gym for the info and for looking.
I sent an image to BUGS and hope they can narrow it down to species. I thought the markings on the body were different from other Mayflies I've seen, so was hoping for sp. ID.
I looked at Mayflies of Vermont and the info there was pretty thin.

Gym you were right. Looked it up and the color markings on the abdomen are very characteristic of this species, Hexagenia limbata also known as the Common Burrower Mayfly that is very common from coast to coast.
Many thanks.

Well, I jumped the gun here. You were correct with the genus and although when I looked it up and saw pictures that resembled what I had, I used their species ID. Bugs came back today with female subimago Hexagenia, either H. limbata or H. rigida saying complete ID can't be told without microscopic identification of the subimago male genitalia. Bummer!

Can't wait to see your shots using your microscopic equipment! <Bazinga!>

I really like May Flies. Used to play with these as a kid. The ones I saw were more kiwi green colored though. Good captures to me.

Thanks for looking and the comment sford122! Like your Avatar, one of these days I'll get me a jumper!!

Nope, not into microscope equipment other than what I have. But, Focus Stacking is another story. I could get into that.
