Horseshoe Bend on the Colorado river . .

The American Southwest is where the wind, water and passing time has carved the most impossible, fantastic shapes in the ancient sandstone. This area is a true geological Wonderland, and Horseshoe Bend of the Colorado River is its most precious jewel.
The emerald-green river makes a giant u-turn of 1,000 ft (330 m) under the steep cliff of the Marble Canyon. How deep is 1,000 feet? Imagine standing at the rooftop of 99-storey building. Can you get to the edge? Keep in mind that there are no guardrails at the Horseshoe Bend overlook. There is actually no overlook per say. You just casually walk on the giant plateau until suddenly the abyss opens up under your feet. You breath is taken away, and even the bravest of us feel dizzy and weak for a moment.
Amazing, just amazing, Well photographed OUsoonequote

Thanks. That has to be the most amazing place I have ever been. The sheer drop when you suddenly reach the edge of the abyss, is simply breathtaking.

I hate heights, if I suddenly came across something like that my luck would have me fainting and falling into it...LOL. A great shot of a fantastic location by the way.

Thanks, Doddy. My oldest daughter has the same problem.
I'm glad you gave a little warning before the image :) That is just amazing! Fabulous photo.
Beautiful...thanks for bringing that "wonder" to us.

I'm truly blessed to have retired in Arizona, which gives me easy access to not only the beauty of the great Southwest, but to gorgeous places in Utah, Wyoming (Jackson Hole area where I have a summer home), as well as Montana,Idaho and the incredibly beautiful Oregon coast. It's hard to get a bad capture in such spectacular places. Fortunately, I have a fairly decent eye for composition and the camera and glass to record what I see. I truly enjoy sharing it with those who appreciate the beauty of Nature. Thank you all for your kind words (but, I seek critique, as well).

Splendid color. Everything falls into place perfectly like the lower part of the river and the horizon.
WOW! Thanks for sharing the shot and the accompanying description. :)
Thats one amazing picture............superb..
Magnificent! This is on my bucket list.
A Beautiful Shot, but I would not be able to stand close enough to the edge to see it either.
I rode up a glass elevator on the outside of the building in Houston, TX once and I had to stand with my back tight to the wall across from the front of the cage. Heights looking down make me very dizzy and I feel as though I am falling.
