Oldest Nikon in Existence

According to the listing, this is the oldest surviving Nikon is existence. Nikon began producing the Nikon I camera, its very first, in March of 1948. This camera was made in April of 1948 and was the companies third unit ever produced. It sports the serial number 60922.
It's currently being auctioned and they expect to get around $200k.

Very interesting. The top of the camera looks remarkably like the Leica III. Thanks for the look. Do you own it?

The first camera for which Nikon claims credit was a collaboration between Canon and nikon, the Hansa of 1939. However Nikon's claims are generally disregarded because the camera body was inscribed "Hansa Canon" although the lens, mount and several other features of the camera were developed and manufactured by Nippon-Kogaku. You are right, however, that the Nikon 1 was the first camera completely manufactured and branded by Nikon.

Can you imagine finding #2 or #1 at a yard sale somewhere? :shock:
