Taken in early evening using 7D with lens set to f4.5 at 24mm, ISO of 100 and 5 second exposure. I used a tripod and cable release. This was the best out out of about 20 different exposures and compositions. Tweeked in LR4

nice photo, but the moon just seems to b a little bright for the picture.....JMHO

I guess I could tone it down a bit but this is the way it really looked behind the thin clouds. I'll give at a try and see what happens.

I really like it. A split ND filter would tone down the moon. Or shooting the photo earlier when the moon is still on the horizon. Or take 2 photos one a perfectly exposed moon and a second photo with a 30 second exposure. You can then combine them in PhotoShop,Paint shop,gimp or elements.

thanks for your reply. I did think about the filter but didn't have on with me. I realized how nice the scene was and had to run home and get my camera. Should have gone back the next night, but the contrails wouldn't have been there. Thanks for looking.
