I updated the Pictures section's rules, and added this clause:

Quote:
- Please do not edit and re-upload other people's pictures without their explicit permission. In other words, you may not open someone's topic, download an image, edit it (that includes adjusting settings, cropping, adding/removing visual elements, etc.), re-post it, and say "here is a version of your photo that I like better" unless they specifically ask for it.

This goes into effect immediately.
If you mess with other people's photos without them asking, you'll get banned.
I updated the Pictures section's rules, and added ... (show quote)

Since none of us really want to admit that none of our photos come out of the camera as less than perfect art [especially English Fox, or Welch Wolf, or whatever his name is], I will be the first on this subject to ask for a little help. I have this 91 year old friend who has this nice little dog that I took a snap shot of. My friend's birthday is next month, and I pan to take him to Hemingway's at Bass Pro for the lunch buffet and present him with a gift photo of his cur, Mac. Now, try as I might, I just cannot think of a good way to PP this snap shot into a work of art. Just hoping one of you will help me out here, and turn this into something of merit. My authorization follows; copy it if you want.

I hereby authorize any member of this forum to download and edit in any manner whatsoever any photo posted with this authorization on condition that the sole purpose of so doing is to upload said photo[s] to The Ugly Hedgehog forum for the purpose of demonstration of photo editing technique, otherwise referred to as Post Production, Post Processing, or PP.

Is there a possibility of getting another shot of the pooch, a little lower, perhaps with the lens nearer eye-level to pooch's face? Might have to get down on your knees, bend down low, maybe even down on your belly? And then call 911 for assistance getting back on your feet.

Can we ban people for not properly quoting a previous post?

Seriously though, I am not reading any of the last two posts. :unamused:

Agreed, jerm. Some of the long winded egotistical posters on this thread you simply take with a grain of salt and ignore them. Obviously several french fries short of a happy meal, a few mega pixels shy of a full frame, a peck or two short of a bushel... you get the point.

I have never said or IMPLIES that all or any of my pictures are perfect quite the contrary, I am usually my own worse critique. :D

What I do say, more often than not, in a language that everyone can understand is:
Garbage in, garbage out, speaking of post processing. You cannot 'remake a bad picture good'. The mortification made show some where else. This not an attack against post processing but against trying to pass a piece of garbage for good work when it is not. (Where you think you I say I am 'better' is a bit obscure to me, unless you consider garbage in garbage out as I-am-better-than-you)

I am picky but I also try to (not with much success) to adapt to the level of the photographer, which by the way, is seem by some folks as condescending.

I do not treat a so-called 'pro' the same way as I treat an amateur when I meddle with his/her pictures. Amateurs need to be encouraged so you point only the most obvious things and when the guy progress so does the level of comments. I have never believed in destroying budding photographer.

When a so-called pro, I lash out, especially when the subject is t&a as there is much to be said about it, not the quality or the model, but about the deliberate use of t&a to get flattering comments. If one looks closely, none of the models offers give anything out, they are dead, killed by a technology aware 'pro' that does not know how to bring his models out. THIS is a big part of being a pro. In focus? Yes. well exposed? Yes. posed correctly? more oten than not, yes if yiu want to exploit their t&a so freaking what? You/we (as a pro) are supposed to know that.
Where is my picture is better? I am pointing the most obvious deadly fault (beside the self serving topic).

I also avoid all threads that start with 'this is so-and-so (family connection)' because those appeal to sentiments and any remark in there is taken as negative because the poster made it that way. The only thing wanted there is: how cute' Not WTF are you doing (photo wise) with this kid/parent/pet?
Where is my picture is better? My comment here on the obvious bias created. Nobody will ever have the guts to say that baby looks like s*** even if true. (sometime I have itchy fingers here)

As to my critics? I usually use a simple formula
a) point out what is not quite right
b) suggestion to correct
c) kudos (if any - I am not going to praise crap)
d) general impression Like: "Not really impressive but seeing the circumstances, not bad or try again or man, I have seem WAY better than your in your own photos".

I am direct, to the point of seeing to be rude.
Where is my picture is better? When did you see me post to show how much better I can do?

Have you seen any of my pictures? I have posted quite a few, in my own topics, look it up. Each time, instead of giving equipment information I give the story behind it. Are they better? Not to my own opinion.
Where is my picture is better?

I am constantly remind folks that I am relearning because of the new medium (digital) The thing is, once I learn, I learn, I do not come back twice for the same idiotic stuff. I have a good computer, a good connection, I know what I am doing so once I get a clue, I go for my own research (said that somewhere else).
Where is my picture is better?

Where is my picture is better?
You may want to read what I say that way.. Hey! It is your prerogative.

Otherwise I have strong opinions and will let them filter out. I have a rather weird way of saying things and an even weirder use of smilies. Once you decode my use, you may understand better.

I make no apologies over my statements, here or anywhere else for that matter. I am responsible for what I post. You are responsible for HOW you understand them and THAT, I do not care about  *

If I make a mistake or say something inaccurate, I acknowledge it willingly and usually say sorry or I apologize.

Just do not come to tell me, to my face that I toot my own horn.

* meaning you have the right not to understand and as such make invalid assumptions.
Insults here? "especially English Fox, or We... (show quote)

Yeah, I found that out a couple of days ago. Brakets anywhere in your message really foul things up. I think I ended up trying brokets, eg broken brackets, and they fouled things up too..odd..and even your message with the spaced brackets fouled up my reply and I had to put ///s in ...
