But, if you were to remove the statistics from Chicago, Detroit, Washington DC and New Orleans, the United States is 4th from the bottom for Murders

These Four Cities also have the most strict and toughest Gun Control Laws in the United States.

Does this tell you anything???

Yeah, it tells me that if you add Los Angeles and New York, we can move further on down. Maybe hit dead last, where America usually comes in for everything else.

It's a sad time we live in. I am glad I brought my children into this world when I did. I told my two young men not to have children so that I may have Grandchildren. I live not too far from Newtown and Cheshire Ct. the place of the imfamous home invasion. These are two very peaceful towns with a town idiot(s). Your town has it's share too. Pistol permits applications here went from 6000 to 62000 in the first three months here compared too last year. My anti gun girl friend of 62 years applied for hers this year. Connecticut mandates a 90 day max. to be processed. Because of the backlog it is around 16 weeks or more.
To us, the Second Amendment has turned from a Right into an insurance policy.

It is true, gun violence in this country is overwhelmingly a minority problem, if you were to take minority murders out of the statistics then our murder rate would be significantly lower. Maybe instead of gun control the gubberment should give up its war on drugs and legalize drugs taking away the incentive for the gang violence in the urban areas.

That is the democrat answer. The only point that I am trying to make is that the overwhelming statistics for murders committed with fire arms are coming out of Urban areas resulting from gang type violence. Yet here the dems are demanding that all these other laws and regulations be enacted that will do little to address the real problem. I have no problem with closing the loopholes in gun shows, that should have been done a long time ago, I also think that firearms dealers should have to report people who purchase a high volume of guns from them, obviously straw purchases, to be resold. But the left deserved to lose the gun debate in this country because they did not address the issues honestly.

Not a democrat answer, a ventured opinion, less occupants of a certain segment of society which commits the majority of violent crimes would reap the benefit of less crime, hence crime control.

I know the information's out there. The point I was making is that I don't believe you got off your "dead ass" and looked it up. When some-one more or less quotes what's already been said by the NRA, it's a pretty good sign that they've put no independent thought into it. But independent thought seems to be beyond some people.

Im sorry Wellhiem I think youre just picking grit with the chickens here. Everybody posts links to various sites to share information. How many original thoughts do you post, I mean things you havent heard or learned from someone else? Sharing information is just that and most information is gleaned from another source. I would guess that if these stats were supporting your position youd have an entirely different attitude toward them.

We had a stretch here in Ontario where the murder rate went down, albeit a short stretch. I wondered what had changed. The one notable change that I did see at that time was that prosperity of the people had risen a little. Especially the jobless rate had dropped. I think if people are working in decent jobs they're not out committing crimes as much. I know this doesn't cover all situations but I think it covers a good chunk of them. Maybe as a society we should look at prosperity for all and not a select few. Hungry bellies can sure turn a person ugly. This won't stop all murders and crime but it'll make a dent in the rate I'm sure.
