A few late comments. First picture- I agree, the handle of the sifter should be in the picture. You could cut more of the basket out on the right if you wanted to. The shot might have been more interesting in landscape rather than portrait orientation, with less empty space on the bottom. The "chocolate bar" should have been more prominently displayed, as it's the most unusual item.

With the grater and cheese, it might have been more interesting if shot at a lower angle (losing some of the wood's texture), but with the wedge of cheese sticking up higher into the dark background.

In the shot into the oven, it would have been nice to get a little light into the back of the oven. It just disappears into the black, but the interior of ovens usually has texture and color of its own, which is missing here. Well, maybe you clean your oven better than we do.

Ok here is the recipe for springerle cookies. Did I do any better this time. And you will have to wait for tomorrow for the last ingredient and final results.

Great set of photographs

How good are you at Wedding Cakes?

Ian

Thank you Ian,
I would say I am better at photographing them than making them. Which isn't saying much. You should see the cakes I made my girls for their birthdays. Pretty sad.

Now for the end of the story. I am not crazy about the middle two, but how do you think one and four came out?

Actually the middle two help give the lead and closing shots some contrast and weight.

The first one, has class. A little contrast of light color but that adds to the Anise I think. The background is just a little bit too out of focus for comfort. It's one thing to show a tiny bit of banana if that means people SEE a banana...but the warm colored (cutting board?) in the background doesn't tell you what it is and creates a question that distracts from the scene.

Now, for the last one. The Cookie Taste Seller of the Week!

You got enough light, low angle and fill on the cookies to bring out color texture, and by implication, taste. You got nice color to the table and decorations, NICE. Sold. Salavating as we type...

But the milk was just not there. No impression of nice cold fresh milk (need sharp clean white milk color) (plus sweat or dribbles, fingerprints on the glass) waiting to ring a lip (soggy napkin, or delicately rumpled one if you prefer...). No crumbs (or chomped on cookies on the tablecloth!) to suggest the cookies could be nibbled gobbled and washed
down. None missing on the plate... EYEEEEEE, You might actually be saving the things for...oh NO!, Christmas!

sigh.

Oh how I wish that I hadn't sampled "some" before whisking them to the basement and into the freezer. They aren't even all that good right away either. They are much better if left to "marinate".
So how is this for white milk and sweat? A little photoshop magic, or not so magic?

Thank you for your comments and suggestions. Every little bit helps me improve. And my oven is filthy. Hence no detail of the back. LOL.

Too bad the cookies are white like the milk. The photo would be more interesting if they had that "baked" look.

Next time I will do something more colorful. :) I love the texture on these though.

Oh no. How could you? You actually hid them away and want to make the cookie snitchers wait till Christmas?

That's betrayal of prime cookie spirit!

Horrible, just horrible.

The remake of your shot, the fake droplets, color change to the table cloth, didn't harm the sugary texture and nice colors of your cookies...but didn't help the story much.

However, IF you hadn't been such a cookie miser and hid them away, you could have done much better to build a new photo and add some FRESH details to the "Story of the Cookie". Which DOES NOT end in no dang freezer..........

Hope you had fun with the project anyway!

And thanks for the recipie...
