I'm wondering if anyone has this camera and what you think of it.

I've just discovered it and considering buying one

Thanks guys/gals

Hi Candle57. I own an SX 50 and dearly love it! I venture to say it will become your favorite, once you get used to using the '50'. Great features, fantastic zoom, and convenient to hold and operate. Can't say anything bad about it, except it took me a while to learn how to 'pick it up' without hitting the ISO button:o) Very nice camera!

Have also been thinking of getting one, but am also looking at the new Fuji 200. It is 2.8 through all focal lengths. But you can't go wrong with the canon.

The slow lens is the criticism that comes up in all the reviews.

One of the great things about the camera's zoom is the image stabilizer, far superior to any DSLR zoom lens that I know. This partly is owing to its much shorter *physical* length compared with the 14 inches of the equivalent DSLR lens. At any rate, I have been able to take hand-held pictures with SX50 at the full x50 with not noticeable blur motion unless I magnify in PP. I take the camera with me without a tripod when I want to go light.

I still accidentally hit some buttons and I don't think my hands are all that big :)

I hit a lot at first, but got a lot better after a short period of time. You figure out how to grab it and hold it.

You're right, Brett. I finally realized why they have that 'bumpy thumb rest' where it is. That makes it much easier to pick-up and/or to handle. (Some of us learn slowly :-D )
I'm completely sold on this camera. Just wish I could get around a bit better to use it to its full advantage.

I pick mine up by the lens barrel, then just hold it as you would hold any camera properly. Agree, the thumb pad helps keep you off the buttons.

You'll get chances to use it to its fullest. Just wait for the photo ops to come to you as well as pursuing them. Keep the camera with you. That's how I got some of mine. :D

Papa Joe - don't forget to unlimber the LCD - you can be sitting on the deck or park bench, rest it on your knee, and get some great low-angle shots! Also, Cathy, don't forget to check out the Macro focus feature - you can get Very close to things. And be sure to pick it up in a store somewhere - the feel of it is quite different than most small cameras - it's like a glove for me !

I ordered one Thurs, and it arrived Fri. Nice camera. It's fairly small and light, but it is loaded with features, including a ridiculously powerful zoom. I'll be using my tripod more.

It can take all your pictures for a day and put them into a movie. Of course, you have to set the camera for that ahead of time. It has an electronic viewfinder and also an LCD that turns and swivels. You can use either or both.

I posted some zoom comparisons this afternoon. I think the title is SX50 Zoom Comparison.

Welcome to the club Jerry...I'm guessing you're gonna have lot of fun.

I found the Canon strap to be very short. I have a better one that I'm going to use.

Good Grief! She has done wonders with it, hasn't she? Great stuff! What a challenge she presents to a virtual novice like me, when it comes to the use of this camera. So much to learn, but sure is fun!
