Warning for those with pets

Yesterday morning, I let my 100lb lab, Sarah, out to the rear yard.
She is spoiled and comes to the door and barks once when she wants back in.
That morning, she did not come back.
Then a bit later, I heard her bark lowly several times - a very unusual event.
I went outside and looked around and from a distance, it appeared as if she had gotten some ivy vines wrapped around her and could hardly walk.
As I got closer, I saw that she was stuck in a heavy wire circular tomato trellis - wire in a tube shape and about 3ft high.
Somehow, she had gotten in from the bottom and her head was at the top sticking through and each front leg also through between the mesh.
I had to cut her out and the wire was so large a gauge that I was barely able to snip it.
We did not have a trellis.
I investigated and learned our neighbor had bought 6 and while doing something he tossed one over our fence without realizing he had.
Sarah is OK.
It made me realize just how dependent our pets are on us.

We often keep our sons little Pomeranian for 2 or 3 days at a time. When we let him out, we have to keep a sharp eye out for hawks. They are pretty brazen and would have no problem killing a little dog. We are pretty attached to him, and that would be terrible to see.

Hmmmm... Wondering how one could toss a tomato trellis over a fence without knowing it?

While we are on the subject, dog owners should not use coco mulch. A lot of dogs like the taste but it can kill them in 24 hours.

A friend lost his little puppy one afternoon, was found later stuck deep in piece of drainage pipe behind a shed. If his daughter hadn't heard the poor dog's whimper, it could have been much worse.

Definitely keep an eye on your pets. They can get themselves in a mess very quickly!

My cat likes to sleep in the garage. Yesterday, I went to close the garage door. I looked all around to make sure he wasn't in the garage. Know where he was? On top of the garage door! I shut the door, then heard this horrendous yowling of pain and fear. I quick stopped the door and hubby got him down. He was scared to death, missing a clump of hair, but nothing worse. Poor baby. He forgave me though!

And if you live in areas with toxic plants, beware. Most of us are familiar with the dangers of poinsiettas, but in Florida a friend was transplanting some sago palms. Her two goldens were playing with one of the tubers, and several hours later they were dead. Oleander is also very toxic. I also had a friend whose golden ran into a tree while chasing a squirrel and broke its neck and died instantly. Our dogs are silly, dumb, wonderful companions. We have to just do our best to look out for them.

The best dog ever.
The best dog ever....

Glad she is okay. I've heard it said "don't leave a dog where you would not leave a two year old". They can both get into trouble very quickly.

Years ago our dog had a litter of puppies. They were several weeks old when it was our scheduled vacation. The girl across the street agreed to give them food and water while we were gone. She didn't realize that removing the dog food cans was part of the job, too. Fortunately, another neighbor came by to check on them and rescued the poor pup who'd gotten his nose stuck in the dog food can trying to get some more. We kept one of the pups and he was a great dog. Mom and son would chase and play like little kids in the back yard.

I saw that happen to a cheeky male chook on my mate's farm in Aus..
In a split second, the Wedge Tail came out of nowhere and disintegrated it..
In the blink of an eye..
They had to be careful of their Fox Terrier as he was tasty to the Eagle also..
