Patterns are fun as are textures. A few years ago I completed a show call Texas Textures and am thinking of revisiting it, this time with digital rather than large format. Also, I think the book is a bit too entry level for folks that are spending their time reading about photography (non complex projects/instruction.) May I suggest a topic such as evaluating photographs (maybe with a specific focus such as digital, print, landscape, portrait, with zone system approaches, etc.) as those who take the time to read photographic books are not always looking for instruction but rather thoughts also about how others view, use and or interpret images. Just a thought for our next book.

I agree. Most of us want a way to evaluate photographs, try a new creative idea or learn a new technique.

I have selected the first book for the month of June. It is a Kindle book entitled 70 Photography Lessons the link is

http://www.amazon.com/70-Photography-Lessons-ebook/dp/B008OIWKSK/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1370002437&sr=1-1&keywords=70+Photography+Lessons

It has 70 lessons to improve your photography. My hope is that everyone will read the book and pick a few of the lessons to work on and post photo's of their chosen lesson. You can choose as many lessons as you wish to work on for the group. You are not "required' to do all of the Lessons to post, but pick one or two to work on and post.

OK, I have read the book and it is more like 70 thoughts about Photography but here is my #1 Read your manual.

I have read my manual front to back . Here is a link to a pdf for the Canon T3I / D600 User Manual and quick ref.

Did you learn anything new about your camera that you didn't know before you read the manual? Learn anything new?

I'm sorry, Kitty. I know you are doing a good thing for any, but I think I just wasted a few bucks on a rehash of lessons learned on this forum and some basic prior knowledge. I wish you luck in the future as you help others with the task of improving their photographic skills. I know I need improvement, but I don't think this is the path for me.

Yes I did, I learn how to access the quick menus and set manual settings faster. I also learned the possible options that my camera has for these settings. I also learned things my camera will not do like Multi Exposures.

I think I will be reading the manula several more times over the coming months.
Thanks
AL

Don't quit Mogul. Suggest a couple of books that would work so we can all learn.

I see that alot of people were not impressed with this first read...I am still interested in keeping the idea of the book club going so we can compare notes, and help others improve our photography. Since I am not a pro...I wouldn't be as timid about sharing and asking questions...gotta start somewhere, this looks like a great idea...Thank you.

Mogul, we had to start somewhere, and I figured an easy read was the best place to start. Do you have any areas of interest that you would like the club to cover?

Kitty, thanks for your response. I left the web site of an interesting article on exposure on your other thread. I think the idea of using resources that are available free on line is a great way to get a lot of people involved. I have done some research on a number of subjects with articles that might be suitable. I'll try to compile a list of a few and PM them to you. If I don't have to buy materials, I will probably hang around for a while.

I honestly am completely new to book clubs, so I'm as green as you are. I know in a regular book club they pick a book, read it, and about once a month get together to discuss the book they read and what they thought about it. I'm hoping this will be in a similar format except that people can post their opinions at any time.

The first book has 70 tips to help photographers in their journey. For this month, I would figure everyone would pick 2 or 3 "hints" and add them into their photography workflow and share their experience with others. It is a light read and thought it might be a good starting point. Start reading the book, ask question of other group members if they use this technique, their thoughts on it etc if they got any benefit out of the book or if it was a waste of time.

I think if this group has enough participation we can do a lot of discovery about photography and get greater insight on how others manage their photography so we can all learn from each other and from the books we select.

Hope that helps clarify it a bit better. I cannot really state what the rhythm of the posts will be like, but hopefully a "system" will gradually work into itself.

I read 27 so call lessons. I am upset you arbitrarily chose a book which happens to be pure public knowledge.
We need books that will teach techniques to improve our photography. I suggested to you practical books with real content and educational value, not tips.
If this is going to be at your sole discretion then I have better things to do with my time and money.

I bought the book, read 27 of the so called lessons, returned for a refund.

Mogul, will appeal to you a club in which we agree on the book before hand? I will like to create a club to share lessons on techniques which we will apply, ask questions, post comments and finally post images resulting from what was learned.
Your input is appreciated. Our club will be Applied Photo Techniques.

I have suggested in almost ALL my posts for people to send in book suggestions for us to read. A book club is only as good as its members are, so instead of all the negativity, why don't you find a book or two you would like to cover and let me know and I can add it to the list of books I'm setting up.
