Photoshop does not read the .nef files from Nikon. This is the file name for raw files on Nikon equipment.

The solution is a plugin program segment that can be added to photoshop. Another problem is that you have an older version of PS and you may not find a plugin for the version of .nef from your camera that will fit your version of PS.

Search for answers on the software connection with Google, or contact Adobe.

I have a Nikon D70, shoot entirely RAW and transfer to my computer as NEF files. PhotoShop CS3 reads them perfectly as did the older version. I have a MAC. Could that be a factor?

Carole.

Hi,
I had the same camera, same PS Elements 6, and the same problem. The solution is: Google "Adobe DNG converter" and find the download. This free download converts your NEF files to DNG files which are raw files that PSE6 can handle. It's a fairly big download, so allow time.

With all the improvements that have been added since version 6, IMHO, I would upgrade to 10. I started with 6, went to 7, and now with 10. No problems with Nikon raw files.

I guess I was unclear about the question. So perhaps when posting questions/answers it would be good to clarify the camera/lens/computer/program more specifically to get a specific answer. PhotoShop Elements is really different that the CS3-5 suites that constitute the PhotoShop/Bridge/InDesign/yadayada package. Versions in hand and or contemplated should give responders a better 'picture.' (Hee hee)
