So is it wrong to have pride in anything? Your country, your armed forces, your kids etc etc. seems like this particular deadly sin is a load of bollocks.

pride of self, better than others, better than you, too good to do any wrong, Puffed-up. There is a bad side to pride.

Agree with your interpretation (Bangee5). Just read up on the 7 deadlies. Invented by Catholics though so not important for non-Catholics to obey.

I'm assuming that is some kind of tongue in cheek remark? I don't get it.

Pepper. Religious doctrines, rules, dogmas, whatever are fine for those who adhere to that religion or that particular branch of that religion. Those who don't follow that religion or branch of that religion are not obliged to pay any attention to that particular rule. If it were otherwise we'd all have to follow every religious doctrine, including those of religions other than our own. For instance, a Christian would have to pray five times a day as the Muslims do and Muslims would have to observe Passover as the Jews do etc etc. I hope this explanation has conveyed my meaning adequately.

I understand and I don't disagree BUT you're most wrong when you state that the 7 deadly sins are of Catholic invention so they can be ignored by the rest of Christianity. They can be found in both Protestant and Catholic versions of the Bible in Proverbs 6:16-19.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree. The word Pride didn't appear in the version of proverbs 6: 16-19 that I read although it could have been interpreted (inferred?) from the words used. The present types of sins making up the seven were formulated by, I think, pope Gregory 1. That's the trouble with things that can be interpreted though. Interpretations often differ and the next thing you know you have Sunnis and Shiites, Catholics and Protestants etc etc. it would be nice if things were unambiguous then we would all know what is what - like "Thou shall not kill" an unambiguous commandment that has been ignored by individuals and governments alike throughout history - go figure.

Jump ahead to Proverbs 8:13 and it will clear it up for you.
