guessman can I add a photo here?
Gessman, I NEVER tire of your elk and wildlife shots.
These do not disappoint either!
(And JimH wasn't the only one to notice the grass looking like drool or something LOL I just thankfully read the thread before adding my 2-cents and he beat me to it!)
Here is my picture !!!
Guessman thanks for letting me post.. Love all of yours they are so very real it looks like you could reach out and touch them... keep posting...

Thank you ~, about the elk pics. I'd hoped I wasn't boring everyone with 'em. I gotta tell ya though friend, I went back and read all that and either I'm a little dense or perhaps you and our friend Jimbo are a little on edge...

Cool. Thanks for sharing those. I've heard about them but hadn't seen a Cabella's. You should have made up a story about a safari to Montana or something. You could've gotten away with it. They look real. I've got some pics of bighorn somewhere. Maybe I'll run across them sometime soon.
Where are the cows? kidding.
These animals never cease to amaze me. I really like the second one the best (composition wise) and assume the artifacting is from downsizing the photo. I see elk quite a bit.. they actually are known to roam through the neighborhoods up here in Steamboat. Here are two of my favorites of these big guys (and gals).
"Gentle Giant"
"Poised for Summer"

Good shots! I especially like the second one. Thanks for sharing those. Will be looking for more.
Went to Rocky Mountain State park this summer and it was amazing. Herds of elk, incredible mountain vistas. A real gem in the National Park system.

Yep. It's pretty hard to live here. :-)

Chancler,
Your reply to this triggered an email (because this is on a list of "watched topics")...and I want to thank you for that!
I can't believe it's been TWENTY YEARS since this was posted and since I was active with a semblance of eagerness.
Revisiting this post thread, photos and recognised people/usernames has been bittersweet ...and wonderful. 🥰

And rightfully so - you should not believe it's been TWENTY years my dear tilde because it's only been TEN, at the risk of giving you a "snap to reality" nudge so this early in the morning.
It is a pleasure to know you're still "kickin'" and paying attention but I have to admit that I am surprised that someone revived this thread this far out and that it got a response from you.
That was a fun time for some of us simple minded folks like me, during my virginal, and only, foray into the online world of photography. As you say, "bittersweet" by now. The atmosphere we had then has dissipated into thin air. There's rarely anything now to laugh at but the collective ignorance and stupidity of some of us. The "dashing" characters among us are gone, those who knew how to look at themselves with a modicum of humor, like "gizzywhicker," replaced by a group of technophobes who get tangled up in their ego and their own words neither of which is anything that's likely to offer an occasional laugh, except in pity, as they drone on and on ad nauseum in an attempt to display their intellectual superiority as though anyone cares.
See you in another ten years?
If so, it'll be a pleasure again. Happy Thanksgiving...

Oh my goodness...you're right! Thank you for setting me straight on 10 years. (Ugh...Life has really taken its toll on my brain).
You can't know how happy it makes me to read your reply, in particular! I have missed your wonderful wit and intellectual banter.
It will be nice to poke around and see if there is anyone else from "the good ol' days" still among the membership...but yes, I do understand ...it has changed so much and not for the lighter/better/more fun of it.
Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!
(If you're inclined to play catsup....ummm....no...that's "catch up"
my email address is the same tilde531@gmail.com . I'd love that. )
