500PX is a gathering place of many very fine photographers. It was designed and is run by photographers as well. Why would you want to create a personal site if thousands more visitors a day go to 500PX?

I spend some amount of time on the site each week. There are many outrageously good photos there and it gives me an opportunity to study what they did to get the shot. I love it.

Try megashot.net. They have some pretty cool offerings and a lot of professional photographers.

Many of the finest and most know photographers in the world post there.

Scott Kelby
Tim Tadder

If your photos are really really good you will get recognized.
If your photos are not good you will not get the time of day.

It's a great place to find out where you fall in the food chain.
Most photographers are scared to know where they really are in the food chain or don't care.

I would recommend looking at the "Popular" or "Editors choice" section. "Upcoming" is where you want to get your photos when you first start out. "Fresh" are the pictures that are most recently posted.

Hey lumski as another member mentioned if you want to run a portfolio off the back of 500px you can there are a few templates.
You can also link a web domain ie www.joebloggsphotography.com to the portfolio so it does not show any 500px links.

I use it to post selected photos to see as Russ mentioned where I fall in the food chain. The site is Free if you only load 10 pics per week. If I get 1 killer shot per week I'm happy. It has to be extremely good just for folks to view, this saves money if your printing and want to see what photos are more likely to sell. Just because I like doesn't mean the public will like. http://500px.com/martinfisher

I started using it a few months ago, I'm using the free option at the moment to see how it goes, it is interesting to see which kind of photos people like, some I think are all right people love & ones I think are great get no response, so that will give you some idea of what the public like.
It also gives you a place to just show your photos, I reckon it's a great place.
My link is at the bottom of my posts. I have so many to upload but lately don't have the time.
Use it & you'll love it.
Cheers !!!
