Since I like still lifes, I do pose a lot of my shots. It's better many times because the wind blows daily and so it's hard to get good shots.

Amy,

Your second image ("a posed shot") is about as good as it ever gets. This image shows that you did your job with composition, exposure, color. . .plus the grand natural elements of the weathered wood, the "vains" in the leaf, and not to be overlooked wonderful realism added by the spider webs.

Very well done on this image. A true piece of art.

Hi amy :) #s 1/2 are nice shots, #3 is ruined by the background, why not put something behind your subjects to eliminate grass and fence posts etc. Sunday I took some photos of flowers in my garden, with no one around to hold a coloured card or the like behind my subject, I just got hold of two garden canes, stuck them in the ground and propped a black card behind them, it took me a couple of minutes and made all the difference..tfp :)

Thank you for looking and giving me advice, Robbie. I'll try that, although it is many times difficult to even pose because the wind blows all the time.

Hi amy, we Brits are always complaining about our weather, but after seeing what some of you guys have to put up with, we should really be grateful. As you know we photographers are pretty determined to get our shots, I would sit down with a cup of tea and work out how I can overcome the wind problem..lol..good luck

Oh, I manage-most of the time. It usually dies down around 7:00 pm, so I can get some then. The downside is that the bugs come out then and I have this aversion to the stinky, sticky bug deterrent. On the upside, if the pic is out of focus, I just make an artsy of it.
