I like your use of light and the colors are excellent.

I have always loved the rhododendron, either cultivated in formal gardens or in the wild. Your image captures the essence of the rhoddy bloom; however, seems to be a touch on the dark side. In the world of painting, a "graphic" is a painting that is greatly oversized and much bigger than life-sized. A tighter crop of your image to a square format, and blown-up to say a 24x24 or 30x30 wall print would be stunning.
On the Mendocino coast, just belown the town of Mendocino, the Big River empties into the pacific ocean. Right there, one may rent a canoe and take a wonderful canoe trip back into nature and the wilds of this amazing county. Not only do you see all kinds of wildlife along the river banks, these woods are also loaded with wild rhododendron, not manicured and a bit "rangy" but plum beautiful along the river banks and in among the lush forest of trees.
If you ever find yourself in this area, let me tip you to the fact that Big River is tidal for a number of miles; therefore, you want to go in with the tide and come out with the tide, or you will kill yourself trying to paddle your canoe against the tide flow. Nonetheless, a wonderful spring adventure.
seems to be a touch on the dark side.>>>>> was deliberate; my choice.

I agree with mooseeyes, on my monitor it looks too dark to be fully appreciated, but as you say, its your choice..tfp :)
I have been thinking about this image for a few days. That in itself must say something positive. Having studied the download and EXIF data and I think the exposure looks ok, a slight tweak in the mid shadow area would lift the image a touch without revealing the background foliage.
Overall a pleasing image.

I like and appreciate the darkness. Shows effective use of highlight, to me. I lean to that side of photography. I love the shot.
