For those who gave all.
This Monday don't forget pause and thank those who gave their lives for your the right to express your thoughts. Also, pledge to fight to preserve that right.
That is very correct! Memorial Day is to pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our great country.
If you can go to a VA cemetery and say a little prayer.

Or a VA hospital and say "thanks".

Most of them will be thinking of friends they lost in war.

Which of the many wars the US fought since World War II was about protecting any of our freedoms? As a matter of fact, the very involvement of the US in various wars has often been an excuse to abrogate freedom. A few examples that come to mind are the Alien Sedition Act, the two USA PATRIOT Acts, and the National Defense Authorization Act.

When you go home, tell them of us and say: 'For your tomorrow we gave our today.'

Evidently then, you cannot answer my question the way you would have to in order to validate the hypothesis of our military people fighting for our freedoms. Thank you for exposing your stupidity with the above response.
As has been famously stated ...
".... patriotism is not the fear of something; it is the love of something."
I'm sure the statement can be argued, but it's worth thinking about, and each one establishing our own definition of what patriotism means to us.

(First two lines borrowed from an earlier post by sarge69)
A veteran - whether active duty, retired, served one hitch, or reserve is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The Government of the United States of America ' for an amount of 'up to and including my life'.
From one Veteran to another, it's an honor to be in your company. Thank you for your service to our country and defending the freedoms we enjoy.
This is the weekend for those of us who served and returned to remember those who served and did not return.
PNagy, whether or not your observations about the US government and wars are valid, we would appreciate it if you would keep them for other weekends.

If you cannot thank them for your freedom, thank them for dying so that you can have a day off. My comment was fitting for my regard for someone who will not honor those who gave their life for us.

At times it is better to suffer in silence, this is one of those times. Evidently you do not agree with Pnagys thoughts and feelings, so be it. As you have recently joined us back in march I would suggest you wait to criticise one of the members here until you know that person a bit better. We all have our faults and flaws here BUT they are established faults and flaws so lay off the criticism, please.
