I'm amateur nature photographer and I'll be heading to Lake Worth and Ft Lauderdale in the near future and was wondering if somebody could suggest areas to go to capture some nature images? Arnold

there are some totaly awesome botanical gardens that way, but i cant rember where they are. go to the florida tourist website, they should be able to recomend some places to shoot at.
I usually Google the town I am going to. They usually tell you where the good places are! I tend to aim for preserves, parks & the beach.
Google: nature areas Fort Lauderdale. Nice list comes up. :-)

I usually do a Flickr search of the location. That way you see what other "photographers" have decided to capture.

Green Cay Wetlands 12800 Hagen Ranch Road Boyton Beach and Wakodahathee Wetlands 13026 Jog Road Delray Beach are two of my favorites. Run over to the west coast and visit Ding Darling on Sanibel Island and pick up a copy of the great Florida birding trail from the State of Florida.

From Fort Lauderdale take Rt 75 West to rt 29 North and then Rt 858 West and look for signs to the Corkscrew Swamp sanctuary. Its an Audabon bird and wildlife sanctuary. On the way back take Rt 29 South to Rt 41, go east and stop at Shark Valley and take the tour. It is the best tour in South Florida.

I am near Green Cay and would strongly second the advice this poster just gave you. Also in our area is Butterfly World and Morikami Gardens. Friends just saw a mother alligator with her young in Green Cay but the real bird breeding photos usually occur in the spring. I have found that a good time is later in the day when the birds are coming home to roost.
There are a # of wildlife refuges. Arthur Marshall Wildlife on 441 west Boynton Beach, Morikami Gardens Delray Beach. There are more in Palm Beach County I'm not as familiar with Broward. Google wildlife refuges and parks Palm Beach county and a quite a few will come up
I live in Lake Worth and I have two spots for you. Arthur Marshall is a Federal Reserve on 441, South of Boynton Beach Blvd. Look for Bedners Farm Market to find the entrance.
My favorite is Wakotahachee (spelling??) County Preserve on Jog Road in Delray. It is just south of the water department on the east side. Get there around 8AM for great bird shots. There is a giant alligator who lives there. The boardwalk is 3/4 of a mile.
Butterfly World on 3600 West Sample Rd. Coconut Creek. FL.33073 *
www.butterflyworld.com Is a great place to go They have also many birds and flowers.
Also near Lauderdale there is the Oriental Gardens not sure of the name but pretty amazing place
Try asking Tracy. She lives in a swamp down there and she eats possum.
