Abandoned subway in Rochester New York. In 1918, the Erie Canal was re-routed to by-pass the downtown. The canal was bought to use as a subway. This tunnel is under Broad Street.

This work of Humorous Graffiti Art, essentially an Environmental Portrait with maximum capitalisation of the site, its background & insertion of a life-like 'worker struggling with a large REAL door & padlock caught my eye in downtown Auckland, loving its composition, subtle humour & maximisation of the Canvass usage adding a sense of functionality & movement. The realistic shadow cast by the worker and his facial expression are nuances that complete the image. Although I have seem more colourful 'canvases', nothing comes close to this unique image.I just Love it!

I can't imagine as I love photography so much.

An interview with BLeete

Thank you for the opportunity to share my work.

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I have been taking "pictures" since junior high. However, it is only in the past 10 years that I have began to study, get away from AUTO, and shoot seriously.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I have had no formal training. On a mission trip 10 years ago, I decided that I would shoot on manual only for the three weeks. I learned a lot. Four years ago, I teamed up with another professional photographer who has taught me so much.
I love to travel and document the people and country. I am a photo-journalist for various missions. After taking the photographs, I return home and publish a book for them so that others can see where their support is used. While home I shoot mostly seniors and sports. But I love landscapes too - old bridges, barns, etc.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
While visiting my nephew in Rochester, NY, he took me on a historical tour of the town. When I saw the subway, graffiti, and lighting, I knew I had to go down and take the shot.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I was shooting with a Canon 1d Mark IV, Canon EF 24-70mm 2.8L, at 45mm ISO 800 f/7.1 1/100

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
I would have a tripod.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I would continue to do my mission work. I visit and document the progress of about 2200 orphans and also girls rescued from sex slavery in 3rd World Countries - Zimbabwe, Honduras, Mexico, and Argentina. While there I also work in the hospital and teach in the schools.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?

An interview with Rex-Pix

Firstly, apologies for any tardiness in response to your invitation. Was in hospital and seemed to be a good time to have my laptop looked at and thus only now come across e-mail.

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
Started photography about 3 years ago after a life-changing adverse medical diagnosis, which rendered me incapable of practising my chosen profession of medicine and significantly impacted on my life.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No formal training, but have done the odd workshop. Am a member of a local camera club.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
Was walking about the city and came across this piece of graffiti or inspired wall-art, which was painted on a large municipal parks board storage shed door. The artist had then used this as his canvas and depicted a blue-collar worker wrestling with the the heavy door. His attention to detail was stunning; in particular the figure's attire, posture, realistic shadow and facial grimace. Love it. Have a folder with more classical and brighter-coloured graffiti, but this is my favorite.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Never go anywhere without some form of camera, whether it is my Canon Compact 260IS GPS, Canon 450d, Canon 60d, or iPhone 5. This was an opportunistic 'grab-shot'.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
No special set-up and was done 'on the fly' after a quick 'scene-clean', picking up some litter, and using a spare wettened T-shirt to clean the dirtier parts of the door.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Would have preferred better 'golden hour' light.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Only have 2-3 hours 'Non-down' time per day and would be lost without my new-found passion, which has evolved from a pain-distracting hobby to an appreciation of light and beauty in unexpected places.

8-only recently started posting, (although am a member of our local camera-club) and use Viewbug using pseudonym of 'Rex-Pix' too.

Kind regards
