I want to be able to move around and edit my photos at the library, coffee shop etc... What do I need to have plenty of space and speed? And any certain brand?

I've bought my last two laptops from Dell's outlet. Some are scratch and dent, some had parts replaced, some were just victims of buyer's remorse.

Have had very good luck with both, will probably get my next one there.

I bought my last 2 (for my kids) at a repair shop. VERY inexpensive & completely refurbished with a guarantee! It has been over a year & kids still happy with them.

If you have a COSTCO nearby and/or have a membership you can buy a decent laptop in store or on line and they give you a two year warrantee. Better than anywhere else.

I don't know what your budget is but I would recommend a Macbook Pro. I bought mine from Apple as a refurb with full factory warranty. Never have had one bit of trouble with it or any viruses. This is a big plus if your using it on the internet. I have filled up the hard drive and had to dump to another drive to make room. Had my son upgrade the hard drive to a larger one.
My son is a computer tech and has made a living repairing computers for years and he is the one that insisted I buy a Mac, now I know why.
good luck hunting.

I would have to agree with the previous poster on the recommendation of a Macbook Pro or other Apple product. They are a photographer's/designer's dream. I have been a satisfied Macbook Pro user for quite a few years now and have no buyer's remorse at all. There are many good refurbished ones out there, ones for sale on Craig's List, Ebay and other auction sites. You will not regret your decision if you buy a Mac, in my opinion!

We have become a "Toshiba" house.
Seriously look at Toshiba.com on black Friday-- LOTS og bang for the buck without extra programs that you don't need or want.

the "Site Center" set one up for my son Alex-- he uses "Dragon Speak" along with other specialty programs--we like how the machine worked so well I ordered myself and my daughter Toshibas last year on black Friday-- great deals and I didn't have to leave home :). Julie's in a smaller in size for college portability but they are both big on hd and speed.

Go to 199computer.com get your laptop and a 500 GB exteral hard driver, it about as big as a billfold. He sell Dells and they are the fastest PC I've used. In the 5 years I been play with computers. I trash one about every 6 months,I'm on the web 24/7. Every day I work on a laptop, 2 table tops, and a all in one. I hope this can help. LATER

Alot of people say Dell is the way to go. I agree if, that is, you are willing to buy an old one. The new Dells are trash! My sis bought one and had to return it because it broke. She bought another dell and now it overheats and makes to most awful noise one could ever hear from a computer.

I bought an hp (G62, to be exact). It has a 15.6 screen and runs really fast for not having such great hardware. I have been so pleased with my purchase.

I have a fantasy photography business, like cowboy and indians, on site photo. I was useing a laptop and went to a all in one, works great. In and out in 10 min. It in the Memory and Processor Speed the more you have the faster. Duo core is best. I buy a lot from tigardirect.com you can call them and they are every helpful. Alot of people do like ebay I spend about $5000. year on little thing like PCs,cameras, lenses, what every I want I go to ebay first. My rate is 1367 at 100%, my ebay ID is otxjcom check out my feedback. And if I'm not happy I call Paypal and they make me happy.

I have a Toshiba laptop, and a good e-machines tower (No, it's not a contradiction) and I would trade them both for my wife's Mac book Pro, even though it's a 13" screen to the Toshiba's 17". So reliable, no viruses, and you don't have Windows.

Let me say that again - you DON'T HAVE WINDOWS !! Especially Vista, and even Windows 7. I have worked with computers since 1988, when a personal computer had 164 K (Not MB, kilobytes) hard drive, and cost 10 grand. It's gotten a lot cheaper, but not better - bite the bullet and get the Mac - there, you've got my 2 cents.
