What type of Hawk is this?

This Hawk stopped by my house in Portland Oregon. He stayed long enough for me to get quite a few pictures of him through my kitchen window. Any help on what type would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Larry

What a neat sight out the window! Could you tell what (who) it had its eye on?

Actually he was just thirsty. He took quite a few drinks out of the puddle.

since these two types of hawk are nearly the same except for size, it could be either without a reference point for size. At least thats what I think, for what little thats worth.

That's a valid point and in most cases you can't tell from a single image, It's the rounded outer edge of the tail in the second picture and the thickness of the legs that leads me to believe it's a Cooper's.

I agree with Cooper with a rounded tail. The sharpie has a squared tail.
