I was doing the dishes when this guy came scurrying by. I went to capture him and he jumped into my sink of bubbles.

Blurryeyed I knocked the iso down to 100 on these. Any better?

Spiders can't move when enclosed in bubbles, but bubbles for some reason made it hard to see his eyes and focus

I rinsed him off and thought I killed him so I posed him on a place mat.

Very Nice! I think that you already see the difference, if you compare these pics with the one that I commented on you will see that these are much cleaner. Using the lower ISO will also allow more flexibility in post processing, you can do more not only with sharpening but also your levels and contrast, saturation etc.

And now you can open your own spider grooming salon!

Did you keep him so you could paint her toes for the next set?

;-)

There is a definite difference. I will have to remember to be sure my ISO is at 100 when shooting macro. I can't think of any reason to shoot higher if I am using a speed light. Thank you again for your comments and advice. I am slowly getting there.

For speedlight macro-photography, most usual settings are 1/200-sec at f/16 or f/22, and you adjust speedlight output for proper exposure. If you have bright sun-lighted areas in your background, you may find under-exposure at ISO 100, or even ISO 200. With full sun-lighted background, I can easily balance speedlight foreground at ISO 400 at 1/200-sec at f/16 or f/22. My preference is ISO 200 (Native ISO), which can render background a stop under subject.
