I took my mountain bike along the Leeds/Liverpool canal from Parbold to Gathurst yesterday. I like using canal tow paths because they are level and you pass through some unusual places. Here are few shots taken along the way.
Parbold Church
Canal cottages, Appley Bridge.
Appley Bridge
Gathurst M6 viaduct
Day Trippers from Wigan
Treated myself to a pint in here
And they rave about the Canals of France----Great set John

Since I rarely visit Leeds, I'm afraid I haven't a Scooby.

thanks for these great photos, i used to live in Appley Bridge, 40y ago before leaving for new zealand, and now australia, they bring back happy memories, colin oh yes i have downloaded them for memory lane keepsake,
must admit the canal looks much cleaner now, than back in 73,last time i was there was 1999, cheers colinann
Looks like you had a great day out..Thanks for sharing
Hi colann, its changed a lot since 1999, there are only two pubs now and a massive housing estate has been built near the station on the canal bank, you can see some of these houses in one of the shots. There mooring facilities are very limited, the is a small one in Parbold and a huge one in Rufford. Where in Appley Bridge did you live, I have a few more photos which I did not post, if you want some more let me know.
Cheers JE

thanks for the replyJE, we used to live in the housing estate behind the Wheatcheaf Pub, in runshaw ave, i know that the railway pub has gone, that was where we had our farewell do back in 73, the mild there was always a good pint, used to go in the Wheatcheaf , to walk home from there was much easier, especially on a wet winters night, yes we get rain out here in AUS, but its much warmer, very much warmer,we think its cold if it gets below say 12c, mind you we do get some very hot days in summer, like 43c, which are not the best,
will post some photos of around here soon, and yes it would be nice to see some more photos of A/Bridge, colin
