I'm gonna throw out a worm and see how many fish I attract. So let's chew the fat on this one.
I was watching "Through the Wormhole" last night and Morgan Freeman mentioned that the human species now creates more data in two days than was created in all of human history up to 2003, It is no news to any one that the data stream that we all are "assaulted" with can be overwhelming.
Here is what set my brain buzzing. Have we, as photographers, become a slave to all the menus on our cameras, speedlights and such, the constant learning curve involved in Post Processing, the updates and upgrades and forums, emails, links and on and on..... that it obscures or interferers with our love for our art?
I can only answer "Yes" !
You seem to say "art" ...like that "is" photography!
I see many different types of photography myself, sometimes I make comments on peoples posts that offend them; not meaning to do so!
Many people here get all riled up and pissed off at each other over pictures and ideas....it sure is entertaining mind you ! lol
I love learning new stuff, so no problem here. :D
It can obscures or interfere with our love for our art, if we try to gobble down the whole loaf of knowledge at one time. For me balance is the key, I take what I can handle from it at time and put the rest on my shelf, this way it doesn't rob me of my passion.... Keepin it clickin!!!!
Worms, fish, fat...you must have skipped lunch :)
This past year I have been finding more enjoyment from just being out experiencing the moment in nature, or in making a pleasing composition, than caring about advancing my technical skills - or knowing every feature (just got the Canon SX50 after 5+ years with Rebel DSLR's).
edit: I first posted "it might be a generational thing" (I just turned 62) then decided it probably has more to do with left brain/right brain.

As Zack Arias would say...
Look for the signal in your life... not the noise

Sometimes my noise filter doesn't work so well. Any they're always inventing ways to go through the filter.
Keep it up guys, I wanna see a minimum of 20 pages chewing the fat!

I think that's half the reason people have ADD. When I sit down on my computer to surf for a bit, I start out knowing where I want to go, then I see an ad or a link, I click on that and get lost in the vastness of the Internet. I'm not saying I don't enjoy the ride but it does happen quite often to me.
And yes I do believe that we are overwhelmed with the amount of data that we have access/are exposed to.
I am absolutely in info overload. My smarter than me new camera has so many buttons, wheels and submenus I cannot figure out a quick way to set shutter speed and aperature, I know how to find M mode but I get side tracked with all the scene modes . My PP program is easy Apple Aperature, but I just got Cs6 when will I get to sleep LOL
nope, it enhances .
more technology=more opportunity=
=more opportunity=more creativity.
IMHO

I use primarily my dSLR. But once in a while I pull out my old 35mm film SLR (Canon FTb) and use that instead. And I find it very refreshing to shoot without menus and mode selections, just simple basic controls! I even enjoy the manual focusing for everything.
