First opportunity this year to get out with my macro lens. Spent a long time trying to capture some bees but two things were against me, impatience and small flowers. Set the tripod up on my chosen flower, even though there were a lot of bees the flowers were quite small so the bee would only spend a very short while there. After a lot of blurred attempts I decided to try without the tripod. Attached is my best attempt but I still have a long way to go before I am happy. Practice! Practice! Practice! Got a couple of other critters too.
I don't use a tripod either...shoot from the hip. Love my 70-300mm macro lens.
Super Job.... Very well done...

Well thanks for the kind words Mike, I have along way to go yet but I appreciate your comments. Cheers
May I suggest a small drop of sugar water placed on a flower. Once found, a bee will stay and drink her fill.
Some photographers use a microwave to heat a equal amounts of sugar & water, then let slowly cool to make sugar syrup. This thicker mix does not run, and can be accurately placed with a tooth pick.
Your spider is most likely a Bold Jumping spider (Phidippus audax)

Nice shots Mark, thanks for the tip Douglass.
They look pretty good to me. Yes I have found it is hard to get live active insects with tripod so like you did hand hold.
