Clipping Section from Video

Took lots of 8mm movies while children grew up. I then transferred them to VHS and as that went sorta obsolete, I placed them on 7 DVD's.
I had a deceased friend that had 2 older daughters that never got to see their father due to early car accident. They do not want me to show the small section to them (might be too emotional), but prefer to have it on separate disc or Travel Guide. Does anyone know of a web page that would contain instructions how I would capture 60 seconds from the Master two hour DVD?

Or you could just edit the 8mm movie and make a new DVD from that (movie editing is soo much easier than video editing).

Good Suggestion, but having recently moved, it would be difficult to find the Projector, must less the film footage!
