I would appreciate any constructive criticism offered on these photos. I'm fairly new at photography and I'm always looking for ways to improve.
Mountain Stream Flower
HDR from overlook on the BlueRidge Parkway in NC
This little guy was captured in my backyard heading to the feeder
The hummingbird is spectacular. The flower could use a little more depth-of-field (smaller f stop); it would also benefit with a vignette (darkening or lightening of the edges).
I'm not a big fan of HDR mostly because I've seen so few of them done well. Most HDR is so overdone that the effect draws attention to itself and distracts from the subject of the photo. Yours isn't bad, but I think the blue in the distant mountains and sky is a little too intense. It competes with the greens in the foreground. On the upside, your balance between the highlights and shadows on the barn is just about right.
These are just my personal opinions, but I'm stickin' to em.
