im new and have a question, can i take a sd card from one camera and put in another camera? thanks
Yes. I know that Sony allows you to make folders to keep your pictures seperated. During the day if I go to more than on location, I make a folder for each location. Making folders could keep your pictures from different cameras seperate.
this is a great place to learn this great hobby.thank you
Yes, just format it in the new camera.
Older cameras had limits on the size of the cards; e.g. 2GB. New ones do not...at least up to 64GB.
Another thing to check is the speed of the card. It is a little number on the card. Most of the old ones were 2. New cameras with higher frame rates and/or video may need faster cards...usually 4 or 6.
You can find very reasonable cards on Amazon. I use my old cards in LCD picture frames.

I freely move my SD card between my Canon SD 1400 P & S and my Nikon D 5100... No problems.
As long as you empty the card it should not be a problem. You may have to reformat for some cameras. If the card is not empty a different camera may not recognize the presence of images already there and over write them. I have used a card from my back up or point and shoot in my DSLR. I try to have two of everything on an extended trip(two DLSR that take the same battery and lenes, two point and shoots with the same battery) all of which use the same memory cards.
I down load everything using Picasa, it will separate the pictures by date, into groups. I can up load only part directly into one folder than pick up the others shots and place them in another. I usually bring them into the computer with Picasa putting them in one folder, using the current date as the folder name. I then split the folder, or move them to an existing one. I edit in other programs.
