I got my 4 direction rail yesterday and it sure helped my positioning the camera with the steadiness or the tripod my results were much better.
I found this dime on my front deck - it looked good through the lens so I clicked it - well with the magnification and processing the yellow pollen from the pine trees showed up like junk on my lens.

Note the back side of the dime is pollen free,

I took these shots of the dime on the deck railing with the camera & ball head in a horizontal position.

Thanks for the photos, and especially for showing what you shoot with. I'm brand new at this macro game, and it helps me a lot to see what is available. That tripod head would make fine adjustments in camera position doable. I was thinking you guys were constantly moving your tripods, and wondering how the heck you did that. Thank you.

I used a reversed 28mm manual Canon Glass lens which gives me 2:1
I am waiting for a "lens to lens" ring so I can put my nifty fifty on and reverse the 28 in front of it - I have read that it makes a good setup.
The Pistol grip Ball head $50 - 4 direction macro rail $25 - Both found on Amazon.

Just "U" wait till I get back down there and shoot up Silverado Trail and Callastoga again. Might even warn you when I am coming down there.

Yes - I know the Napa hall - been there a few times in the past - '96-'99 I was in that area 2 or 3 times a week doing customer service for a meat company and stop by for an hour or so.

Nope - an old Canon 350d as ancient aluminum tripod with new goodies.
