You've done a great job of bringing the details out of the stonework, on the original I thought there was only the three main "men", but on the processed version the others are obvious. Also, good job cloning out the shadow in the foreground. The saturation in the sky is slightly too high for my taste though.

I agree on the sky saturation, but I thought it would make the stone stand out more.

Hi Gaylord.
I tend to agree with Andrew about how well the processing has brought out the other people, I didn't notice them in the first shot at all. Very good job with the cloning, can't see any repeated patterns and it looks very natural. I take Deayala1's point about the stone bench but personallyI don't find too intrusive because it is the same colour and texture as the surrounding stone. The saturation of the sky could be a tad high but I am not convinced because I think the problem is that there is too much sky which perhaps makes the colouring seem a little overpowering. Also for me the rock is a little too central, its that old composition thing of having more space in front of a person (even a stone person) than behind. So I guess what I am suggesting is a crop of the top and the left so that you end up with the thirds intersection sitting on the jutting out corner at the top right of the stone. To my eye that would give a better balance and may reduce the blue impact of the sky. But we are wandering into personal taste here so you and others may well disagree, but its only a suggestion of something that you could look at. Other than that this has turned out to be another example of where natural looking HDR can bring out the best in a pic. Its good to see you posting by the way, I really enjoy seeing what you are up to.

Catch you soon.

Peter

Hi Gaylord. br I tend to agree with Andrew about h... (show quote)

I have tried a number of different crop sizes, and I'm not accomplishing the desired results as to your suggestion.
No matter what crop I come up with the Men in Stone fill too much of the crop. Maybe if I had been further back from the subject when I took the photo, cropping for effect would have been easier.

I would like to see your Thirds crop on this shot. Photo CC welcome.

Hi Gaylord.
The first is a screen shot to show where the thirds intersection sits and the second is the actual crop. Am absolutely aware that this is quite subjective based on my eye so it quite possibly won't work for you.

Basically this is what I had come up with, but it still looks mostly centered to me. However the reduction of the blue sky certainly has merit.

Another "point of view" observation... I would love to see a lower point of view, making the stones dominate the view and making the sky less prominent. It would also drop that bench from view. This might lessen the overall effect of the saturated sky. What do you think?

Interesting point of view. I may just give it a try next time I'm in the area, and it isn't raining.
