Ok, still checking out the 105mm macro i bought. I saw on here that someone had made it even cooler by attaching a reversed 50mm lens, so I tried it out. I used a tripod today, and a lower ISO, but no flash. i'm sure that most of you will not think to musch of my pictures, but it is how I am learning the lens.

You mentioned buying an older 105 nikon. You might want to make sure it's a true macro. I got excited when my friend told me he had an old one laying around I could have. Turned out nikon also made a prime 105 lens also. Could not close focus with it.

Lens is Nikon Micro-Nikkor 105mm 1:2.8, serial #207639, it has 3 rows of measurement PN, ft, and M, What is PN?

Your lens was first available in 1983. Stand-alone, it can only capture 1:2 magnification (1/2 life-size). A PN-11 Auto Extension Tube is required to reach 1:0.88 magnification (1.14x life-size). The orange "PN" numbers are the magnifications with PN-11 tube.

Yep that's it, is there a manual available for this lens? Was it worth $460.00 or did I get taken?

Thanks Douglass, I'm glad to see that I didn't get taken.

Doug, does it have to be a PN-11, or can any set of extension tubes work?

The lens numbers correspond to PN-11, but any manual extension tube will work.
Auto-Extension tubes are a useless expense on a manual aperture/manual focus lens.

You might try a Raynox250. It attaches to the front of the lens and should get you close to 1:1.

Douglass, I see some super cheap manual extension tube on B&H, will these work ok on this lens?

Recently, UHH users of cheap (Chinese) manual extension tubes have discussed inability to easily remove tubes from lens. I have no personal experience with manual tubes.
