Extension rings or a Bellows

Is there any advantage in having a set of macro extension rings over having a set of bellows?

Absolutely!
Auto-extension tubes mean that Auto-Focus and auto-aperture are preserved through contacts, which electronically connect camera to lens. Straight extension tubes and bellows do not have these electronic connections. Tubes can be used individually, or in any combination.
