I am new here, my name is John. I have photoshop Element 6. I still haven't mastered it yet but, I am interested in upgrading to PS Element 10 or Photoshop Lightroom 3. I would like your input as to which program is better and easy to work with. Your help will be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have used Photoshop with bride before Lightroom became available. When Lightroom became available I started using it primarily to catalog all my photos and spent a little time using it to enhance my photos. When Lightroom 3 became available, I spend 95% doing my post processing in LR3 and 5% going to PS CS4. A great combination would be LR3 and Elements 10, or GIMP because it is free and has more power. It is nice using all Adobe products because they integrate with each other. You can try LR3 I know for 30 days from Adobe. Currently there are people (ie Amazon) selling LR3 for $150. If you're student or teacher, you can get those programs for about a third the price. Arnold

I use them both equally and love them. I normally use PS CS2, but I got a chance to buy Elements 9 and it's similiar. You can buy a book called CS2 for Dummies, it can help you out with Elements. I also buy a magazine called Practical Photoshop, it comes with a Disk and teaches you how to use all the componets of Photoshop CS2-5 and sometimes it has lessons on Lightroom. I love the magazine and highly reccomend it.

Patriot,
I started using LR3 a couple of months ago, am still learning how to use it. So far I like it. I found a site with very good tutorials on Lightroom. The site is http//www.slrlounge.com. It has over 100 youtube video tutorials covering all aspects of lightroom 3. On the home page, half way down is a section titled "The Guides" click on Lightroom tab.

For Adubin: I am trying out LR3 (trial version). I am having trouble downloading from my Canon 60D. The program doesn't easily "see" the camera. When it does start to import I get a message saying that the photos can't be read. I am trying to download both Canon raw (.CR2) and jpg.

I upgraded LR3 to version 3.5 so it would support the Canon 60D and CR2 files.

I don't understand having to convert to DNG files. Does LR only import from a Card?

I am using an IMAC with OS X 10.7. I know that the readme file tells you to set up the program so it runs as a 32 bit program but I can't make it show me those options.

Any help would be great. Thanks Paul

I running my LR3 Version 3.5 on MacBook 15" Pro with Mac OS X V 10.6.8 and I'll normally download my RAW files (these are Nikon NEF) from a card reader. There are times when I will download my photos to a folder on my desktop and then upload them into LR3. When I import my files from my card, I click on Copy at the top of the screen. I also imported just jpg files and have had no problems. I have never tried to import photos directly from my camera into LR3. Everything I read about importing photos onto your computer, people don't recommend doing it via camera connection, they recommend importing the photos via a card reader. I never worry about setting anything for 32 bits on my Mac Laptop for LR3.

I would try importing several of your .CR2 photos into a folder on your desktop and then uploading them to LR3. If that doesn't work, I would get the Adobe Support to help you resolve this issue.

I hope you solve this problem without having to into DNG format. One last thing does your LR3 have Camera RAW 6.5 loaded on it? Arnold

I have a lot of porblems with uploading from a camera I have to have the right driver every computer I use, Because I have several machines I always upload from a card. I have a great many software choices available. But generally use Picasa as my management program, and do editing in Elements.

You can do all your organizing with Lightroom and most of the post processing you need. It is a great program. To learn to use it I recomend a wonderful 7 hour workshop by Laura Shoe. It cost about $40 and can be downloaded. Go to www.laurashoe.com.

I use Elements9 and I tried LR3 and didn't like the importing and cataloging part of it. I just couldn't get used to it and stopped using it. I'm back to PSE9.
