info on Carbonite?

Does anyone use Carbonite for cloud photo storage? What can anyone tell me about it?

I've used it for several years. Had one hard drive crash and everything was there! They also have a mobile app that allows you to see your entire home computer library on your phone or ipad or whatever. This works great for my daughter who has a Windows based computer. It can't see my iPhoto (mac) files remotely. I feel safe with this and an external local drive. Price is good too. It does take some time to do the back ups, best with a fast Internet connection.

I have also used Carbonite for years and had many crashes but I can rely on downloading my files from Carbonite. Make sure if your computer is offline for more than 30 days to freeze Carbonite so they know the files are still active.

What happens if you don't freeze it?

I believe they will remove your files because they don't believe that the files are still on your computer.

I've used Carbonite for a long time and it has saved my data several times. The first download takes a loooooong time. It took almost a whole weekend for me but once it's downloaded the first time you don't even know it's working. There are several storage systems in the Clouds but I think Carbonite is tops. :thumbup:

Wow thanks for all this info. I was using Amazon's cloud drive, but there is no sync. You have to upload all pictures individually. Each photo takes about 2 minutes. I have over 40,000 pics and was about to lose my mind d! Stayed up til 2am last nite doing research on alternate storages. Liked Carbonite the best. It's been uploading my files since 2 this morning (it's almost 11am now)and it still has over 36,000 pics . But it is doing it itself! And it says once this initial upload is done, it will sync any new or changed data. It sounds too good to be true, but from the replies here, I think I may just have picked a winner! I have a 5tb external hard drive too. I think I'm on my way to being SAFE!

Also, Carbonite claims to be USA - based. Glad that if I call them I will get someone who speaks the same language as I do.

It's more expensive than Carbonite if you don't count the external drives. How long has he been around, and will he continue to be around?

But, it DOES include any and all drives connected to the computer! So, the better comparison is to 'Home Premier' at $149/year. And who's to say if ANY company is going to be here next year, next month, next week!

Have used Carbonite for about two years and the first upload took several days. It backs up up any new file automatically. Did have 1 crash and Carbonite had everything saved. Only have it backing up "C". Gives you peace of mind. One time I got a virus that took most of my info and made the files unable to open, They weren't gone but could not access them unfortunately before I realized the problem Carbonite also backed that up so I still lost a lot. So now I have it back up on command which I do everyday that way I think this won't happen again. Very cheap insurance for much peace of mind.
