I know some of you guys are going to get tired of me asking about lens. Has anyone used the Sigma 2.8 , 105mm macro? I want a good lens but hate to have to pay $900 + for a Nikon 105 macro. Right now the Sigma is $469.00. a big difference. Is it worth buying? Thanks

A few of our macro-photographers use a Sigma 105-mm macro lens. The newer version has "OS" (Optical Stabilization): http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-258306-105mm-Macro-Camera/dp/B0058NYW3K/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

The older version does not: http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-105mm-Medium-Telephoto-Cameras/dp/B0002P19XK

I highly recommend stabilization.

Well I want to thank you guys, I have been steadily looking around for a Nikon 105 macro, and I found 1 on Amazon,
Nikon 105mm f/2.8D AF Micro-Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras, It's used, I paid $460.00. I hope it is a good lens

The Nikkor 105D is an excellent lens. A-F, but no VR (Vibration Reduction). The Nikkor 105G has A-F & VR.
The 105D will physically extend as you focus closer. Maximum lens extension at 1:1 magnification (life-size), which is true macro.

Thanks Douglass, I hope it is in good shape, It says the lens first came out in 1988. I'm new to macro, so I hope I made a good decision

In early 2010, I purchased a used Nikkor 105D. You can see my earliest 105D macros, starting on page 64 of my Flickr account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nikonian72/with/4409885154/#photo_4409885154 , then work forward.

A year later, or so, I sold the 105D, and purchased a used 105G, which dramatically improved my keep rate.

Exactly! And when the time comes to upgrade, you can sell your 105D for close to your purchase price.

I have one and am very happy with it. Bought it from KEH.com. Used equipment and excellent to do business with. Very professional.
