I've found this interesting book and I'll use my Nikon F4S
(after the body and lens don't communicate) in manual mode + spot metering.

The spot metering site was a great read and extremely informative and made we want to practice, which i did and saw improved results as suggested.
Thanks

Good site.

I always spot meter because I shoot manual and I don't care about what the camera "thinks" the whole scene should be, I only care about how the subject comes across and I adjust from there.

I only meter "in camera" when the pictures are not that important....i.e. pug pictures...daily snaps....etc.

Don't forget...you can also meter off of the palm of your hand in a pinch too...as long as the same light is on your subject and also your hand...it is a sort of "poor man's grey card"

Rpavich, If using your palm as a gray card, don't you typically open up a stop?
