Now this would be a really good thing if they ate stink bugs. ;)

First it was the invasion of the Tent Worms decades ago, killing the trees along the East Coast and along comes the Asian Carp, eating the natural habitat in our rivers and lakes then it's the Stink Bugs and now it's the cicadas, these things come and go....I hope!

Well, at least these guys only show up every 17 years!

In 1979, I was attending grad school after working all day. I arrived on campus around 6 p.m. Was standing outside my car (door open of course) and changing jackets when I heard a bunch of them coming straight at me. Of course I didn't want them in the car so I slammed the door...:locking the keys inside. Ugh. But it gets worse...

Campus police tried to help me by sliding one of those flat stick things down the window in order to grab the door mechanism. Couldn't get that one, so he tried the passenger door. Hmm ... Couldn't get that one either.

Thats when I called the Honda dealer to see if they could bring another key (yes back in those days they could). And I learned that what had happened why you shouldn't use those sticks on a Honda....at least not back then.

Instead of lifting the rod onside to open the door, the 'stick' lifted and pulled the rod up and out of the clip that holds it in place....so now even having the key would not open the door. Had to resort to breaking a window.

Hope Honda's are not made that way now. :-)

Great story, not to get off the subject of Cicadas but in December of 1992 I was at a Mall Christmas shopping, it was a cold and snowy night and crowded as hell. I forgot where I parked my car. At the time I owned a white Dodge Dynasty with red interior. After walking around the crowded lot for 20 minutes, I spoted a white Dynasty with red interior, I'm thinking, finally I found it. Took my key out, put it in the key hole and opened the door, at that instant I realized this wasn't my car...this car had a baby seat in the back, mine didn't. I closed the door, locked it and looked around, I seen another white Dynasty parked 4 spaces down. Opened the door, this one was mine. Driving home. I kept thinking...why did my key open this other persons car? The next day, I told my neighbor what happened, he claims...the millions of cars manufactuers make, sometimes one key will open 2 cars of the same model and the manufacturer makes sure they sell those two cars far away from each other in differnt parts of the country. It's still hard for me to believe my key opened another persons car.

Actually last year we were supposed to be invaded by Stink bugs in the NE....didn't happen...we did get a few but nothing like what was predicted. Cicadas on the other hand...we'll see. I can hardly wait :(

I was in Nashville - I forget the year - during an invasion of cicadas, and the noise of their 'singing' was near deafening.

I guess that this invasion will prompt a whole new group of Bug images for all of us here at UHH.
Can't wait.
