I took this picture of my Brother in laws Green Tree Python. Nikon D300 I used a Sigma 105mm 1:2.8 DG Macro HSM lens !05mm 1/250 sec, F6.3 iso 200 with camera flash.

What was your Working Distance (lens front element to subject)?

To capture true macro with a 105-mm lens on a Nikon APS-C sensor, WD is about 157-mm = 6.2-inches. Any farther from subject is a close-up, not a macro photograph.

I could not get any closer because of the cage that it was in

My Nikon 105mm lens is coming in the mail. I can't wait. You recommended this lens. Thanks.
