Hey Richie G, RRS is excellent gear and is a great choice if you can afford it. I would also consider the TVC-24 as it gives you a bit more height when you need it. Talk it over with the RRS guys on the phone, they will do their best to get you into the right gear. Are you buying the 23 for weight considerations or is there another reason for your decision?

You'll love your tripod and ball head. I would also think about getting a bag for that kit. Enjoy Richie G, good shooting :)

Which one would you pick between the TVC-23 tripod+BH-40 LR Ballhead or the TVC-33 tripod+BH-55 LR Ballhead?

I might be bias hear because I bought the TVC-33 with BH-55 kit. I chose that kit because I also wanted the to use the TA-3-LB-HK Leveler and PG-20 gimbal head for panos. I do wish that I had purchased the TVC-34 instead just to get bit more height for certain situations. The down side to the larger legs and ball head is weight. The TVC-23 with BH-40 will be significantly lighter then the TVC-33 with BH-55.

What is the biggest lens/body camera you will be putting on it? RRS will ask you that and be able to give you specific guidance.

The 55 has a very high weight limit - I think it is 54 pounds. So the head depends on the weight you intend to load it with. As others have said, call RRS and talk with them. They will be very helpful.

I have two of their tripods. Love them!
