Photography is a passion of mine. Doesn't really much matter what type. I am wanting to get a decent macro telephoto lens for Canon 5d Mk II and a Canon 50D. Any suggestions.

Welcome Toady, I'm no psychic bet I guess Hello from Texas kind of stops you being in hiding!! You'll find a search facility at the top of the page which will prove very useful for questions such as which macro lens, fill your boots!!

Welcome TEX! Your header if changed to something like help with macro for Canon will get more response. Also as has been stated if you first use search it will help. All that being said glad you are here and glad you asked. I use Canon T2i & 60 D. I plan on adding a 5.

The Sigma has been mentioned already it's a great lens. For most Canon people the sunrises and sets in Canons 2.8 Macros and the 180 macro witch is a bit pricey. Of the 100s the non L refurbish is being offered by Canon at slightly over $400.00. Any more help from me at least don't hesitate to ask or PM me.

UHH is a great group most of the time. Kinda like family!

It is hard to beat the Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro. If you can find the older model without autofocus (an almost worthless feature on a macro lens) it will be quite inexpensive. I have had one for about 6 or 7 years and love it. Sharp, Sharp, Sharp and very light. Couple it with a set of Kenko extension tubes and it will probably be all you ever need.

Hi Toady,

I don't know if you have considered Canon's 'L ' series lenses. I have two of them and can only describe them as truly superb.
On the negative side you will have to pay!......... 'an arm and a leg' comes to mind, . However, if you can afford to buy an L I promise you that you won't be disappointed. Good Luck.

Canon has the EF 100 f 2.8 non L non IS refurbished at less than 410.00. I have blown my photo fund so a purchase would cut into my photo fum! JR
