A rare Canon lens 70-210mm 3.5 -4.5

I traded my new laptop for an older Canon T1i today. And was looking online to find some information on this secondary zoom lens I got with the deal. Come to find out it's rare. It is capable of 3.5 at full zoom. The background is so blurred it's unreal. I also found that this lens was made only for a single year in 1987 and is the first auto focus zoom lens by canon (stated in a few different post) I don't know that for sure. However, it's condition is perfect along with the camera and the 18-55mm lens. I am happy with my trade. Does anyone know about this lens or what are your thoughts about it?

Those photos are good but my first question about the lens is
why was it discontinued in such a short time?
Maybe there wasn't a niche for it, not enough demand for it, or perhaps Canon had some manufacturing issues with it that drove their costs beyond reason.
Had this lens been made by an aftermarket company with no known track record this might have been a quality issue.
Being made and marketed by Canon I believe this is a good lens; Canon can ill afford to market questionable integrity.

The reason that I have read for discontinuing the lens was that it was made only as a limited time offer from canon and was only available for purchase in the U.S. A sum of only 2000 of these was sold that year. The lens it's self does have an imprint (LE) on it which with all of the reading I have done say's stands for Limited Edition. Makes right with me... I don't know the real reason but I can tell you it's lens size is 58mm which is pretty small but then again it's not a small as they get... I like it's over all performance. The photographs was taken hand held in low lighting.
