I have a new Canon Pro 100 printer. I use this with a PC running Windows 7 and LR4. I have been trying to print in LR using ICC profiles of the paper. When I do this in LR under Color Management a statement comes up that ask you to turn off color management in the printer driver dialog box. I can not find where to turn off the color management so the printer will not interfere with LR. As always any help in this will be greatly appreciated.

I don't do my own printing, and this is just memory from I've read here and there:

Are the ICC profiles of the paper printer-specific or LR-specific?
If they are printer-specific you need to turn off LR Colour Management, if they are LR-specific your need to turn off printer colour management.

Have you checked the printer's manual or user guide to see if it says anything about turning off colour management?
Or, open up your printer-driver from the control panel and check every link and button in that pop-up. When I was still using my Epson printer, the colour management was "buried" quite deep, something like 5 or 6 clicks away if I remember correctly.

Hope this helps at least a little bit.

I printed my first photos on my new Pro 100 yesterday. I printed the same photo twice. Once through the Canon plug in and once with Lightroom.

My understanding (which is not always dependable) is that if you use the Canon paper and select the paper you are using, the ICC profiles are used automatically.

I'll do some research today and see if I can add anything.

I am using Canon paper and used the canon ICC profiles in LR. When I tried to use the ICC profiles and viewed the photo before printing the color was off. When I set the paper type in the dialog box and then set the color to be managed by the printer the color looked correct. I have been looking through all of the controls etc.. Thank you for your time

When printing in Lightroom, one should start the process from the lefthand panel in the print module and first select a printing template followed by selcting approriate choices in the "Page Setup Menu..." at the bottom of the panel and then to those in the "Print Settings..." menu.

It is there in the "Print Settings..." menu that the printer driver controls for "software controls color management" or "printer controls color management" settings can be found. Make sure that it is set to software controls color management. These choices can be saved to use again.

Next go to the right hand panel and, starting at the top, work your way through for all of the appropriate settings for the job at hand. Be sure that you are using the correct ICC profile for the paper and ink combination.

Finally all of these settings can be saved in a "user custom template" back in the left hand module so that you don't have to go through this again under the same conditions in another print job --- i.e. same type and size paper, ink, printer etc. combination.

I have two Epson printers and I use Epson Luster paper size 8.5 x 11 in both, so I have custom printer settings Named Epson Luster 8.5 x 11 1400 and the other Epson Luster 8.5 x 11 3880.

Makes things easier.

Under the file menu in Lightroom 4 there is a "print settings" choice. When that is clicked, "print setup" shows up. Click "properties."

*But nowhere do I see a choice to use the printer or the software to control the print.*

In the lower right hand column, under "color management" you can choose the paper profile and the rendering intent. Again, I see no way to choose whether the printer or the software controls the printing. Perhaps when one chooses a paper profile that automatically means the software is controlling the printing.

Quoting your response:
"In the lower right hand column, under "color management" you can choose the paper profile and the rendering intent."

These choices found at the bottom of the "right hand panel" are for "soft proofing" --- the settings I have been talking about are found at the bottom of the "left hand panel"

The "soft proofing" gives one a sense of what the final result will appear to be by simulating the paper, ink, and printer combinations.

I am in Lightroom right now and the *only* thing at the bottom of the left column is "Page Setup."

In *my* Print Settings" menu, there is no place to make the choice you are referring to. When I print from Photoshop, that choice is present, but not from Lightroom.

I am not having any trouble printing on my Epson 4880. I was just responding to the issue of printer settings in Lightroom.

At this point, I suspect that your problem lies in a faulty Canon Printer Driver --- I would strongly suggest that you go to the Canon Support Page and download another driver for the printer that you have. See if that's the problem, it's something that can be done today.

I ran the full Canon setup disk that loaded my computer with plenty of useless Canon "creative" software AND the drivers. I've deleted the useless editing software, but the drivers remained. There is even a "plugin" that goes with Lightroom that shows up in File > Plug-in Extras called "Canon Print Studio Pro". There ends up being two printing methods in Lightroom. I don't yet know if the plug in works better or worse than the regular Lightroom workflow.
