"Reply" vs "Quote Reply"- need clarification

As a relatively new user, I have been using the "Reply" option to reply to posts made by others. However, yesterday I saw a post that, in effect, said to use "Quote Reply" so that all would understand to whom the reply was directed. So should I be using "Quote Reply" every time? Thanks for any help/advice.

Hi tbell7D

I do not know the specific answer as per admin - but I either use the persons name in the reply or use the quote reply option

the first option listed is when teh reply is long and just adds legnth to the page

sometime (depending on how much time I have) i will quaote reply and edit it down to the relevant section - still to include teh name of the person

Thanks
Karl

When you hit "reply" it just pops a box up and your reply is the only thing in the comment that you produce.

When you "quote reply" you are quoting the other post and your own comment goes underneath.

It makes the conversation easier to follow if everyone see's who you are responding to when you say:.."oh yeah...that's nice" :)

There was a recent change. It used to be that when you clicked "quote reply" you got everything the poster had in their entry, including if THEY were doing a quote reply and if THAT was a quote reply and on and on. Some of those took up a LOT of space!

It's important to note that if you just click "reply," your post goes to the END of the thread, which already might be a couple of pages long. It does not go directly under the person's post you're responding to, unless that is the last item currently in the thread.

Just a test- a "Quote Reply" to rpavich to see where this winds up.

(edit) "Quote Reply" puts it at the end as well, but at least you have context.
