Folks, one of the Greatest singers in country music (George Jones) will be laided to rest today. His funeral was held for the public and telecast live on TV moments ago from the Grand Ole Opry House. There was not a dry eye in this household, the Opry House and throughout this city. I grabbed a couple screen shots from TV at the close of his funeral as Alan Jackson paid trubute to George Jones with "He stopped loving her today". I felt moved to share this last moment from Nashville, and if I get sued...so be it. I will miss this man...who sang about life both the good parts and bad parts. RIP...George, Thanks for all the songs that made us laugh and cry.
RIP George Jones, one of my favourite country singers.
I didn't know he had died, One of THE greats, I saw him live in London in the 60s, still play his stuff today. Thanks for the info.

RIP George. You have finally found the peace that you could never find alive. Thanks for the songs about life as you saw it. You will always be one of my favorite people.
George would appreciate your kindness and thoughtfullness..,.
Another from the old generation now gone...there's not many left who made Country Music and Nashville famous as stars like him. (Are you listening American Idol winners?) Those days are about gone for Nashville. They tore down the Roy Acuff Theatre here a couple years ago...lack of interest I'm guessing. It is indeed a sad day here. Cloudy with rain moving in, appropiate on a sad day. But should anyone viewing want to listen to some of George's music, they are playing a tribute on WSM radio off and on today. It's being streamed on the internet at
http://www.wsmonline.com/ be patient...a lot of people are tuning in, so the site loads a bit slow.
Some good ole time music for those who remember those times.
One of the best, thanks for posting!!! :D :D :D

I am not really country, but I liked him. He will be missed that is for sure. He was true country. I think your post is very special. Thanks for posting!
They just don't come any better than George Jones. Always a favorite of mine for close to 60 years. For those who are not all that aware of his career, his website has a great bio on George.

Hopefully he and Tammy can get along better in the afterlife.
RIP George.
I play differant styles of music in my truck. It's always recorded on a memory stick(Can't stand what's on the radio anymore) Every once in a while someone will ask what station I'm listening to and I have to inform them of my situation. I usually ask if they have a computer. I give them the memory stick and my address and ask them to mail it back to me. I've gotten it back every time. (6 times so far)The last time I got pulled over by an insistant delivery driver for a food company. What station are you listening to that plays George Jones. He had never heard 50,000 Names on the Wall. (Vietnam Vet) He talked about George for a while and how he gets no air time. How Alan Jackson stopped the show and gave his time to George. I'm waiting for the stick back---I believe it'll be here any day now.

I hear ya...we don't listen to a lot of radio either, it's become so commercialized. The music seems overdone and fake, so much autotuning crap in the vocals. Not from the heart anymore. Occassionally we tune into WSM on weekends. Nothing like a live broadcast...the roar of the crowd and cheers of delight. The ambience of a live perfomance is so captivating.
George had a nice sending away. Many of his friends showed up to pay tribute. Alan Jackson in tears took his hat off and place it over his heart in salute to his friend. The Opry House was packed 4,200 in attendance with 100 or so standing where they could. Folks came from all over...a few from England and Australia. One fellow cut short is DisneyWorld vacation and hopped the first flight to Nashville to attend. About 200 gathered on the lawns outside the Opryhouse. We wanted to go, but knew there would be no chance since many folks camped over night to get in. The TV announcer on scene told us George bought 60 more gravesites around his...all to be offered for free for anyone who can't afford a place to rest. But he lives on through his songs. His final concert which was supposed to be in November will go on, but now as a tribute.
Thanks for your story...I really enjoyed it. Take care now...James

I saw George in concert here several years ago. His voice was fading but he could still-as he always could-wring the emotion out of any song. He will be missed.
We lost a good one for sure.
