I have some leneses ;however I'm not sure they will do the job I need. I have a 50mm ,55-300,18-55, and 90mm all Nikon but I was told the 70-200 2.8 AF-s VR is what I need. Is this true???? I will have to save for it if so. I am very new too photography but have already sold around $300.00 of my work. I just started in Jan. this year and I love it. I have another show this weekend so if anyone can give mesome good advice that would be awesome. What I want to take pictures of is sports shows, nature, nature family shoots beach, farms and so on and landscape, architecture this is what I really love. If any pro's could give me some good leneses that want brake the bank that would be good and tell me what they are mainly used for. Thank you all for your help.

I shoot mainly working cowboys and horses. I have done some team pennings and horse shows in the past. My favorite lens is a Tamron 70-200 2.8. I shoot a Sony camera and have a Sony 75-300, f4.6. I find that the Tamron f2.8 gives me the best results. I can't reach out as far as with the Sony, but the faster lens allows me greater success for action and working in less light, i.e.. cloudy days, later in the afternoon, evening.

 Thank you I was told the 2.8 70-200 was the deal. Where can I see some of your work?

Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 is one of Nikon's best, tack sharp and fast.

I'm currently updating my website, so I don't have anything new there, but you can see some of what I shot in the past with my Sony 75-300 lens. But here are a few I shot last week at a neighbor's branding with the Tamron 70-200.

The 2.8 is what you need. Any thing less will be too slow unless you increase the ISO and that isn't usually a good thing to do.

Being old and the curmudgeon that I am have a couple of questions. Have you obtained the required business license? How about liability insurance? What sources have you used (book store, Internet, library, etc) to learn all you can about how to run a photography business? It surprises me that you are already doing sessions for money but are having to ask a fundamental question about a lens. Glad you found a hobby that you like. Best of luck and hope it all turns out like you want.

I have been a Nurse for 25 years. A doctor seen some of my work and wanted it . He told a friend and it started from there. I had a natural talet for nursing also it has treated me well. I think this will go well for me also sorry if that does not go down well for you. I also have a few other companies were I live that I own so it's not my first trip and my lawyer and CPA say I'm good to go. I'm glad you go by the book on all you do. I'm sure you do. :-D

Not always. Reason I asked is:
Because of the "digital age" in photography it seems that a lot of people are getting into the photography business as a means of making extra cash. Inasmuch as they usually do not get the required business license or insurance they can and all too often do undercut the local full time professional who is trying to run a legit business for a living. Glad to see your lawyer and CPA say your ok. Must mean you have all the required licenses and insurance, both for this and your other ventures. Would hate to think that you were depriving a full time professional photographer from getting business needed to make a honest living.

Best thing is hire the 70-200 and try it for yourself, you won't be disappointed. Sigma have a 70-200 f/2.8 for much less which is also an awesome lens.

You might consider renting before you buy.
