Imagine...you go to a favorite spot for photographers, say the Statue of Liberty, and photograph it from different angles. When you try to publish one of the photos, the "copyright police" show up and arrest you because you used a photographic "location" already copyrighted by someone else.
Far fetched? Consider this, if a company uses DNA from your own body to create a cure for cancer, they can Patent the cure, paying you nothing, and preventing others from using YOUR DNA from making a similar, but perhaps more effective cure.
The governing entity would need a lot of signs like these
Not so far fetched. There are some major issues going on right now with Monsanto seed. Farmers that have not planted Monsanto seed are being sued if there is cross pollination from a neighboring farmer that has purchased monsanto seed. If they are found with the patented gene in their corn they can and will be sued or fined. Patents and Copy rights laws are getting tougher and tougher.
hey why dont the farmers sue them for cross pollinating thier corn and we should take photos of them bees that work for the monsanto seed company too

LOL I am sure there are lots of farmers out there that would like to do just that. It has gotten to be a really big deal.

Wow, CountryMama....I know exactly what your saying....Monsanto are Geo Engineering seeds to accept Aluminum, which is being sprayed everywhere....."Another subject"....The Amish are being fined 1,000.00 for selling milk and butter...etc.
People are being threatened/fined and prosecuted for gardens, little girls for having lemonade stands....
So sad the world we live in....And Oh, photographers are now considered "on the watch list for being terrorists"......how sick is all this....huh...
Have a blessed day...your post got me going...grin

Where in the world do you come up with such outlandish stories.
There is no such thing as a "photographic location being under copyright." You may stand in the identical same spot I stood in to take an identical photo. We are both free to do whatever we want with our own photos. YOu are only in the wrong if you attempt to photographly make a copy MY published photograph, not my location. That didn't belong to me so you are free to use it in good health.
Legally, a company can Patent whatever medicine they develope, but they cannot Patent the human source materials that were used in the development. God already has the patent on those, and he freely gives permission for their use in aiding mankind. Also I most sincerely believe that if you were to attempt to Patent any portion of my body, you would have to answer to numerous and vocal members of my family.
I have read about issues with publishing photos of certain places/objects. For example
http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=0040xw talks about night photos of the Ifle Tower. Don't know how they could enforce these laws.
I have read about people being told they can't photograph an embassy.
Public property is public property, isn't it?

And that doesn't fly anymore - stemcell research.
What a world!
This is a great post. I have carried a copy of this in my backpack for years.
