To humans, yes. But to squirrels, don't know if it caused a problem. I watched them eat it, was a very dry summer and food was not readily available.

I see that the destroying of tomatoes ( and also the plants) by squirrels is a big problem. Apparently they are looking for moisture.

I am not arguing with the article as reported, but I watched them eat everything. There was nothing left when they finished, but the roots of two plants. This was done over two days.
